Sounded like he wanted an NSA relationship ( regular sex with same partner without any exclusivity or commitment)
FWB would be more like Exclusivity to one partner and having regular sex but still no commitment! ... Theres is NO commitment in all kinds of sexual relationship but the serious called loved one.

NSA to me means No Strings Attached. so both are free to do as they wish and with who they wish.
FWB are Friends and more attached with both being more in for just each other for sex.
Lust means fuck anyone they want, when they want
Occasional means free to fuck who they want and just meet if they get horny and no one else available.

I get what each one means. NSA to me means no strings so you can see each other and who ever else you want to. FWB are friends who who have sex and who also go out to dinner, hang out at each other's house and watch a movie, or do other things friends do. Lust is what you feel when you meet someone and you just want to have sex with that person only. Occasional means that you have sex with that person when ever each person is horny and available.

My definitions:
NSA - What it says on the tin
It could be a ONS (See lust) or it could be someone that you know and have an occasional fuck with but otherwise there is nothing binding on either side e.g. A female friend of mine used to meet the same guy at a conference each year and they would fuck. No contact otherwise, and sometimes one or the other would have someone else with them, or would not show up.
FWB - Again, just what it says on the tin. 
A couple of friends who like one another well enough to have sex from time to time. It is not love, and it is not (necessarily) exclusive as otherwise it would be bf/gf. They can have a day or night out, together or with others, without any hint of sex or they can meet for a quickie and nothing else. Either way it is mutual and no pressure from either side. Out of all of these definitions, this is probably my favourite state to be in. 
Lust - Just met, instantly decide that you need to undress the other person and jump their bones. No intent for anything else - purely a sexual tension release. This one can be confusing as just because one partner is overcome with lust does not mean that the other is... he or she could be looking for FWB or gf/bf instead of the ONS that is the usual result of lust.
Occasional - Now this one has me a little perplexed. 
I cannot see this as a separate category, but if it is, then it seems to fit somewhere between NSA and FWB. NSA can be just ONS or something that happens from time to time, whilst FWB has friendship as well as an occasional good fucking.
As for protection... every time, no exceptions, in lust, NSA, ONS and occasional (if it is a category). There is potential for bareback sex in FWB but only after talking about it first.
Moving it to something that is actually relevant here, I would move from initial lust over a lady on this site leading to a meeting for, possibly, some NSA sex (assuming neither of us runs for the hills when we meet for the initial coffee). This may lead on, if I manage to impress the lady with my fantastic abilities in bed  , to further NSA sex - is this what you mean by "occasional", Belle? - or perhaps if we meet regularly and really click, then it may turn into FWB and we may meet for things other than just sex.

I think I do mix up "Lust" for a "ONS" (One Night Sex) then

Occasional sex has to be counted as a categorie indeed cuz it sure dont fit as any other even if its really close to NSA sex. The difference between the NSA and Occasional sex is that in NSA it would be more "REGULAR" or often then the Occasionnal sex (only a few times a year).
Occasionnal can become NSA if it occurs on a regular basics and NSA can become FWB with time .... but that's only my point of view

I agree with ssm and sagg too. Probably because unlike Heidi, I am a man. The only thing I would add concerns lust and ONS. I think for our purposes here we can consider lust the same as ONS and purely physical. However I will say that lust can be over a period of time. There was a girl I knew that every time we saw each other all we wanted to hit the sack or table or floor or couch or where ever. It never did develop into any thing else. But again for our purposes I think lust is very short term.
I will say also that I really enjoyed reading all of these responses. I thank all who have contributed here.

As soon as I saw your post I knew that I would reply... it just took time to think about how to describe what I think is quite obvious (though having read others' responses, it seems it is not; lines in the sand are at different points for different people) and then finding a long enough time to sit down and type it all up.
