Today Is The Busiest Day For U.S. Plumbers

Here's something I hadn't heard before. Perhaps our U.S. members will relate

Many people know the Friday after U.S. Thanksgiving is known as ‘Black Friday’ in retail circles. But did you know it is referred as 'Brown Friday' for plumbers? It is also the busiest day of the year for them. Incoming calls, mostly for kitchen plumbing jobs, will jump 50% over an average Friday according one of the largest full-service commercial plumbing and drain cleaning services.

Plates littered with leftovers find their way to the kitchen sink and often end up being dumped down the garbage disposal. Some of the worst things to put down the drain are pasta, casseroles, turkey or chicken bones, stringy-fibrous vegetables (asparagus, artichokes, carrot skins, celery, potato skins and corn husks) and eggshells.

Additional strain is also put on plumbing systems while people host extra guests which leads to more showers, baths, flushes and perhaps extra loads of laundry.

No doubt, many folks can relate to having to deal with an assortment of plumbing issues. What's the strangest problem you have experienced?

The worst disposal issue I had was when I peeled the outer layers of an onion and stuffed the large onion skin down the disposal where it lodged in the crevice between the blade and the drain and stayed there for days before I had to reach in there and pull it out.

Growing up, my parents often rented cottages for our summer vacation. Indoor plumbing was not always provided. One place, it felt like it was indoor but in fact there was a cistern which the owner would empty daily. Imagine my shock 😱 when using the ‘facilities’ and heard a man’s voice below me!

I always skip black Friday as it's a most dangerous day here. And this year even more so with the virus.

And I believe that about the plumbers as it was also very busy last Friday as well, we didn't get our plumbing fixed here until almost five o'clock is one the worst Nightmare of a Friday we have had in years.

I hope your Friday is a great start to your weekend..

Seduce the mind and see what a wonderful adventure the body will take you on..

I imagine plumbers plunge into their work so they can be flush with cash for the holidays

When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro.

The only thing we have to fear is fear itself.

Who would have thought plumbers would have their own "holiday"?! Plastic silverwave - that recently happened. Of course, it was my significant other who was the culprit ... LOL ... hope you have a happy and peaceful Turkey Day ...

In Luv, Lite, Laffter ...

Yikes, that sounds like a stinky mess that could have been avoided.

Although I hadn't heard of it before I certainly did believe since it was posted on a reputable full-service commercial plumbing and drain cleaning service website.

Black Friday has made its way here as retailers worry about competing with all the online vendors. Major plumbing issues when you live in an apartment of a condominium building inconvenience so many people and can be a nightmare to get resolved. Hope you enjoyed your Thanksgiving celebration the best that you could.

Yep, they sure cause problems! It is surprising and disgusting what people will put down their drains. Plumbers must all have some horror stories of what they have had to 'plumb away'!

If you look hard enough, there seems to be a holiday for just about anything! Darn those significant others that cause an assortment of problems. Our Thanksgiving was in October and like the rest of this year was very quiet. Hope you made the best of yours.

Pretty crazy isn't it? As I commented to someone else, Plumbers must all have some horror stories of what they have had to remove from drains. Hope you had a great Thanksgiving!
