It's a way of talking - from the California San Fernando Valley in the 1980's. It is heavily based on materialism, with adherents usually portrayed as air-headed and shallow.

Frank Zappa did a parody song with his daughter, if you want to hear what Valley talk sounds like. It is titled Valley Girl.

Having originally come from SoCal I've met, and subsequently avoided, "Vals" as we called them. Mostly because they were . . . boooring

When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro.

The only thing we have to fear is fear itself.

Sorry about that, BKJ. I did not mean to mislead anyone into thinking that there may be bored Valley Girls here to hit on. That is my bad for titling the post this way.

You wouldn't want a Val anyway. They are grody to the max!

Thanx for the welcome, T.

Yep, boredom is a consequence of our times, it would seem.

Whenever I said that as a youngster, my granny used to clip me round the ear and tell there's no such things as being bored, there's only being boring! She would then give me chores which I hated even more.......and so I used to complain that I was chored, and she would say there's no such thing as being chored.......well ye get the picture.

We used to have a laugh, I miss here even now.

I recommend learning to live like a monk.......no sex, very little outside contact, chanting to yourself, reading the same things over and over.......welcome to the blogs!!

Yes, the to the blogs indeed. And I recommend that you take up a few lessons in Valley Speak online at the tube. Like, add it to your repertoire of Scottish Speak or bag your face...

On a more serious note, dude, I so miss my grandma. She loved me ever so much. I'm smiling as I remember her...

I'm not bored. But I feel your pain. I thought Valley Girl Speak had been put to rest. Maybe I should get out more. Then again, maybe not.

Visco Girls are this generations version of the Valley Girl. Painful as it is to admit, I was one of those Valley Girls.... It took a long time for me to stop speaking it. I still find myself, from time to time, breaking out the phrases. I never did drop "Oh My God!"

I reckon I am still capable of finding ways to keep myself amused. Even to the point of reviving dead languages for a few hours...
